Your Mindset Is Running the Show

And once you understand how it works, everything starts to change.

Have you ever noticed how two people can go through the exact same situation and come out with completely different experiences? One person loses their job and spirals. Another loses their job and calls it a turning point. Same event — totally different outcome. What makes the difference? Their mindset.

We throw that word around a lot. But what does mindset actually mean — and more importantly, how does it work?

🧠 What Is Mindset, Really?

Your mindset is the lens through which you see everything. It’s the collection of beliefs, assumptions, and stories you’ve built up over your lifetime — about yourself, about others, and about what’s possible for you.

These beliefs weren’t random. They were shaped by your experiences, your upbringing, the things people said to you (and about you), and the conclusions you drew from all of it.

Here’s the important part: your brain believes what it’s been taught to believe. And what it believes, it looks for evidence to confirm.

This is called confirmation bias. If you believe you’re not good enough, your brain will work overtime to find proof of that — and quietly filter out anything that contradicts it. It’s not personal. It’s just how we’re wired.

🔄 Fixed vs. Growth Mindset

Psychologist Carol Dweck introduced one of the most powerful mindset distinctions:

Fixed Mindset

The belief that your qualities — your intelligence, your talent, your worth — are fixed. You either have it or you don’t. Failure feels like proof of your limitations.

Growth Mindset

The belief that your qualities can be developed through effort, learning, and persistence. Failure becomes feedback. Challenges become opportunities.

Most of us sit somewhere between the two — and we can shift.

🌿 How Your Mindset Shapes Your Reality

Your mindset doesn’t just affect how you think. It affects how you feel, how you act, and ultimately, what you create in your life. Here’s the chain:

1. Belief → Thought

Every thought you have is rooted in a belief. “I could never do that” comes from a belief that you’re not capable. “This is going to be hard” comes from a belief that things are difficult for you.

2. Thought → Feeling

Thoughts create feelings. The moment you think “I’m going to fail,” your body responds — tightness in the chest, a drop in energy, the urge to back away.

3. Feeling → Action (or Inaction)

And how you feel drives what you do. When you feel capable, you try. When you feel scared or not enough, you shrink back, procrastinate, or avoid.

4. Action → Result

And of course, what you do (or don’t do) shapes your results — which then feed right back into your beliefs. The cycle continues.

This is why mindset work is not “just positive thinking.” It’s about interrupting a pattern that has been running, often unconsciously, for years.

🌱 Can You Actually Change Your Mindset?

Yes. Absolutely. And science backs this up.

Thanks to neuroplasticity — the brain’s ability to form new neural pathways — you can literally rewire the way you think. It takes time, repetition, and the right tools. But it is possible.

Here’s what mindset work actually looks like in practice:

  • Noticing the thoughts that don’t serve you — without judging yourself for having them
  • Getting curious about where those thoughts came from
  • Gently challenging them and asking: is this actually true?
  • Practising new, more empowering ways of thinking — consistently, not just once
  • Taking small actions that build new evidence for a new belief

It’s not about forcing yourself to think positively. It’s about becoming aware of the story you’re telling — and deciding if it’s one worth keeping.

💬 A Final Thought

Your mindset is not your fault. But it is your responsibility. The beliefs that are holding you back made sense at some point — they were your best way of making sense of the world. But you’re not that person anymore. And you don’t have to keep living by rules you never consciously chose.

The most powerful shift you can make is simply this: from “this is just how I am” to “this is how I’ve learned to be — and I can learn something new.”

That’s where change begins.

✨ If you’re ready to start understanding — and shifting — the mindset that’s been running your life, I’d love to work with you.

You don’t have to figure this out alone. 🤍
